My Story

Dr. Moriah Thomas is a Marine Corps veteran with a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology who specializes in aiding veterans in navigating the psychological impact of the military-to-civilian transition (what the transition does to the mind).

Dr. Thomas got out of the military after serving eight years in the Marine Corps, including two combat tours to Iraq, to pursue a degree in psychology. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in psychology, she then pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015 and began working as a counselor. After counseling for several years, she returned to school and earned her Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from Walden University in February 2022.

Throughout her career as a Marine, people felt comfortable confiding in Dr. Thomas and asking for advice. She has a strong compassion for the pains of others, especially her military brothers and sisters. From her own military-to-civilian transition experience and observing her husband, who is a Marine veteran and retiree, she recognized that the current Transition Assistance Program does not provide assistance or resources to address the psychological effects of leaving the military.

The military provides your basic needs, creates brotherhood, trains you as a leader, and creates a deep sense of purpose that is hard to find anywhere else. So, although planning your separation is exciting, and you initially enjoy the honeymoon phase of no longer attending PT at 5 am or Saturday duty, the feeling of loss eventually sets in. Because of this and the thoughts and feelings that go untreated, it has become Dr. Thomas’s mission and purpose to help veterans transition their minds from the military culture to life outside the military and bridge the gap in the current transition process.

The-Alpha Arch program is that bridge. The-Alpha Arch Program is a one-of-a-kind system that Dr. Thomas strategically designed for veterans who feel alone, angry, lost, depressed, or anxious after leaving the military. The-Alpha Arch Program identifies what veterans have lost, creates self-awareness, helps them to set new goals, and holds them accountable so they can continue to adapt and overcome in a new way.

Dr. Thomas has always felt great empathy and concern for people, which she says is a God-given talent that she can’t ignore. She feels responsible for using her gifts and knowledge to help as many veterans as possible. Dr. Thomas is described by others as loyal, always willing to help, courageous, and she gives it to you straight. She has a great sense of humor, loves Disney, and enjoys practicing the art of EMDR therapy. Dr. Thomas is married to her best friend, LtCol. Thomas, USMC (Ret.), who supports and inspires her work in the veteran community
